Ubuntu wiki history
The original Ubuntu wiki was born in 2004, the same year that Warty Warthog was released. Over the course of 20+ years, it was built by the combined efforts of many contributors.
Over time, a second Ubuntu community wiki emerged and the two wikis co-existed for several years. Both will be decommissioned in 2026, to be replaced by the wiki that you are reading right now.

The original wikis were developed using the Moin moin wiki platform. In 2025, Canonical made the decision to move to the MediaWiki platform.
Canonical hosts the wiki on its infrastructure and the wiki is maintained by the Ubuntu community.
