Ptyxis

Ptyxis (pronounced tick-sis) is the default terminal emulator on Ubuntu Desktop.

Origin of name

The etymology of Ptyxis goes back to the ancient Greek for "a folding", and the term is used in botany to describe the way in which a leaf folds into a bud. Indeed, the icon for the Ptyxis terminal emulator appears to depict leaves. Given its positioning as "container-oriented", the term may refer to folding of multiple containers into the interface of the Ptyxis terminal emulator.
